Winter weather may be beautiful, but it’s brutal on your skin. This year in Wisconsin, I am beginning to believe that we are the only state that has cold weather. That’s why we believe in formulating every product with purpose and in the colder months purpose means protection and locking in moisture. Using deeply nourishing oils is one of the best ways to lock in moisture and keep skin hydrated throughout the winter season, but not all oils are created equal. At Generation Soaps, we carefully choose oils that support dry, mature and sensitive skin especially when the temperatures drop. Below, we’re sharing our favorite winter skincare oils that we use in our herbal soaps and skincare products, all of which are hardworking ingredients rooted in nature and backed by real results.
Why your skin will love the following oils in winter skincare:
Jojoba Oil: This oil is technically liquid wax, but don’t let that fool you. It’s a moisture-locking superhero. Jojoba oil closely resembles your skin's natural sebum, which means it absorbs quickly without clogging pores. During winter, your skin often overcompensates for dryness by producing excess oil. Jojoba helps balance that response while also deeply nourishing and protecting the skin barrier. The benefits of using jojoba oil in winter skincare:
• Soothes irritated or flaky winter skin
• Balances sebum production (great for both dry and oily areas)
• Offers a non-greasy, breathable layer of hydration
Sweet Almond Oil: Gentle, Lightweight Hydration. Sweet almond oil is a favorite in both skincare and wellness for a reason: it’s gentle, versatile and full of nourishing properties.
Sweet almond oil is rich in vitamin E, fatty acids and antioxidants making it an ideal choice for combating dull, dry or sensitive skin in colder months. It sinks in easily and doesn’t leave a heavy residue just soft, smooth healthy-feeling skin. Sweet almond oil is safe for all skin types, but during the winter months it seems to work miracles for those with dry skin. The fatty acids found in sweet almond oil are known to reduce skin inflammation and helps skin retains moisture while healing “angry-skin” conditions and chapped skin. This is personally one of my favorite oils in winter skincare to use as the days get shorter and nights get colder!! Some of the amazing benefits you will find using products with sweet almond oil:
• Calms winter itch and irritation
• Gently softens rough patches
• Improves skin tone and texture over time
Avocado Oil: Deep Nourishment for Dry Skin. Avocado isn’t just a superfood for your smoothie. It’s one of the most moisture-rich oils you can give your skin. Avocado Oil for winter skincare is rich in vitamins A, D, and E along with omega-9 fatty acids that deeply penetrate the skin. This makes it perfect for extremely dry or mature skin types, especially during the winter when the skin's ability to retain moisture is compromised. It sinks deep to keep skin hydrated all day long. Using products for your winter skincare that are rich in avocado oil will help:
• Replenishes dry, cracked skin
• Supports skin repair and regeneration
• Offers long-lasting hydration
Rosehip Seed Oil: Winter Glow in a Bottle. Rosehip seed oil is often referred to as “liquid gold” and for good reason. It’s loaded with vitamin C and natural retinoic acid**, making it ideal for dull, tired-looking skin. Winter can leave skin looking dull and uneven. Rosehip seed oil is rich in linoleic and linolenic acids and is known to help strengthen the skin's natural barrier locking in moisture and preventing winter dryness. This deep hydration improves elasticity making it a must-have for mature or tired skin types that need extra support. Some of the benefits of rosehip seed oil in winter skincare:
• Softens and soothes skin
• Improves skin tone and radiance
• Reduces fine lines and rough texture
• Brightens dull winter skin without irritation
Argan Oil: Your personal skin protector. This amazing oil is an antioxidant-rich powerhouse perfect for shielding skin from winter’s worst. The fatty acids found in argan oil are known to restore the skin's natural barrier preventing moisture loss from cold, dry air and locking in hydration for long-lasting softness. Known as a "dry oil" that penetrates quickly without leaving a heavy, greasy residue makes it great for daily use and also aids in healing chapped hands and feet and promotes cell renewal for healthier skin. Argan oil is also loaded with vitamin E and squalene, which make it a fantastic protective oil. It helps seal in moisture, repair damaged skin and shield against environmental stressors like windburn and indoor heating.
• Helps repair cracked or compromised skin
• Softens rough hands, elbows, and heels
• Locks in hydration without clogging pores
